Amanda Brennan is a Senior Director at Trends Social. Formerly Head of Editorial at Tumblr, she is a trend expert on the cutting edge of the latest new media and viral marketing.
Here are some of the key insights from the conversation:
Meet your audience where they are.
“We all use so much social media, yet people’s lives are changing post-2020. As a culture, I think people are in a state of evaluating their relationships with the internet. When you are doing social, you wanna meet them where they are. You gotta go where the people are - that’s the point of understanding your community.”
Get out there and test the limits!
“New media is about pushing boundaries, trying new things, and not being afraid to fail. When you’re trying new things, not everything is going to work... but when you can find whatever ROI it ends up being… it’s all learning and building, that’s a skill that comes with time.”
Building a community organically requires authenticity and patience.
“You as a business cannot go onto Reddit and post your link. That’s not how it works. You need to find the people that will post you to Reddit. It’s a different type of work than just throwing up ‘paid’, it’s a lot more human, understanding people and a little bit of sociology built in.”
